Soccer: Rangers gunned down by classy De La Salle
By: Adrian Flanagan

Permanent TSB Under 14B League
DE LA SALLE 4, PARK RANGERS 0

DE LA SALLE claimed victory in the U- 14B league at home on Saturday morning against a Park Rangers side that had only drawn a game before this match.

The home side dominated from the outset and their opponents had no real answer to a De La Salle side that performed like a team that were in the top half of the league and not a team that sat on the bottom before this game was played.

Park Rangers struggled badly after conceding a goal in the opening minutes of the contest and from here on in, De La Salle never looked back and ran out easy victors at the final whistle.

The scoreline tells the story of the game and it must be said that the home side could have actually won by more than the final scoreline suggests. Some of the goals that the home side scored were brilliantly taken and the Park Rangers goalkeeper, Bill Murphy, had little chance of saving.

However, although he could not be faulted for any of the goals bar one, the Park Rangers centre forwards never caused the De La Salle team any problems at all and to be honest, it was an easy day at the office of the home side’s netminder Brian Walsh.

As a matter of fact, the keeper only had to produce one save in the hour, clearly demonstrating the dominance of home side.

Referee John Keegan was nearly non existent for the whole game as his common sense and freeing flowing approach to the game saw the Hibernians man blow the whistle as little as often during the course of the game. This was definitely one of his quieter days in the middle.

GOAL WITH FIRST ATTACK

De La Salle scored with their opening attack of the game after less than two minutes and it was a fine finish from midfielder Chan Kim Sui.

After some good play from Darren Doheny out on the left, his cross from the right broke into the path of Sui and his right-footed cracking effort from the edge of the penalty area gave the Park Rangers keeper Murphy, no chance whatsoever as the strike found the bottom corner of the net.

It could be said that no keeper in the world would have stopped the effort as it was planted in the corner and it was a peach of a goal from the impressive midfielder. He then went on to score a second goal which was even better than his first. They missed a right chance to double their advantage on nine minutes as centre forward Hugh Beglin found space inside the penalty area.

Mark Grant played the ball into the Park Rangers penalty area, however, the ball broke inside the area to Beglin and he was completely unmarked but with the goal at his mercy, he blazed over the crossbar when it looked like it would be a lot easier to score.

The visitors to La Salle Park failed to raise a gallop during the first half and Thomas Kiely tried his luck with a long distance effort.

He picked up a pass from David McGrath but the right-footed shot that followed from 25 yards never troubled the Rangers keeper, Bill Murphy and the ball went wide of the target.

Aidan O’Meara was in the right place at the right time to deny Darren Doheny what looked like a golden opportunity three minutes before the half time break. After an excellent pass from Chan Kim Sui, Doheny looked like he was just about to shoot to the back of the net but O’Meara produced an excellent tackle to divert the ball wide of the target.

De La Salle started the second half as they began the first and added their second goal of the game after 37 minutes. A mistake in the defence left Ricky Farrell with the task of shooting to an empty net when he failed to give up on a pass from Doheny.

This was a goal that the home side fully deserved for their efforts. Farrell had an effort well saved by the keeper on 40 minutes after a cross from Ray Roche.

DLS UP A GEAR

Ricky Farrell did add his second goal of the game after 47 minutes. Following an excellent move and a fine cross from the left from Darren Doheny, the ball was sent to the net by a first time strike from Farrell to sow the game up for the home side.

Chan Kim Sui also scored his second goal of the game three minutes later when he finished brilliantly to the net with a left-footed effort, which gave keeper Murphy no chance at all as the only Rangers effort saw John Keating have a shot saved by the keeper on 56 minutes. This was after Sui and Beglin had gone close for the home side.
