Funding for Kilmac’s new fire station
By: Marion O'Mara

KILMACTHOMAS is to share in a €20m package aimed at improving the country’s fire services.

According to Deputy Brendan Kenneally funding has been provided for the long awaited new fire station in the Co. Waterford town.

Speaking about the announcement Deputy Kenneally said, “This is a tremendous boost to fire services in Waterford. The new station in Kilmacthomas will now be built on a green field site outside the town. This is a more suitable location. The current station is in the middle of town, which can make it more difficult to get to an emergency call.

Being based on the outskirts of town means that the fire fighters won’t be stuck in traffic when reacting to a call. It will let them respond quicker.

“It will also ensure that our fire fighters have modern facilities and services available to them. Given the life and death nature of the job these brave people do it is essential that they should have the best equipment and resources available and this announcement will certainly help them in their work.”
