Tapping into the online market
By Mary Ellen Breen
SISTERS and business partners Majella Owens and Eimear Kiely are hoping their new Tramore store and online website will help them tap into success.
The pair decided to open their business, Tutu’s 2 Tap Shoes Dancewear after Eimear was made redundant, having worked for many years in the construction industry as a quantity surveyor. Majella’s two daughters were both highly involved in the local dance scene and Majella was increasingly frustrated by the lack of availability of dancewear, footwear and accessories outside of Dublin. It seemed like the push they needed to take a risk and start their own business.
Having spent months researching the industry, both ladies completed a “Start your own Business” Course with Waterford County Enterprise Board. They opened their doors to the public in May 2009 and have just launched an online shop.
The shop has already been acknowledged by the industry as having the only fully qualified Pointe fitting service outside of the capital. The ladies travelled to the UK last year to be trained by Linda Reid Lobatto who is renowned for her precision and skill in fitting Pointe shoes.
In addition to that Tutu’s 2 Tap Shoes have just rolled out a service that allows people to drop in second hand Irish dancing costumes that they wish to sell. These will then be put on the shop website and also displayed in the shop for an agreed period of time. When the costume sells the owner gets the sale price and just pays the shop a small agreed commission.
Check out their website at www.tutus2tapshoes dancewear.ie for further information.
