Rural bus network

Following the decision of Bus Eireann to discontinue all bus services to and from Lismore and West Waterford with the exception of the Sunday evening bus from Lismore to Waterford from February 27, I am calling on the management of Bus Eireann to reconsider this matter as it has caused a great deal of distress to many elderly people who now feel completely isolated as they do not own or a drive a car.

I would propose as a compromise solution that one of the hourly Expressway buses from Dungarvan to Youghal is diverted through the towns of Cappoquin, Lismore and Tallow and then on to Youghal one day per week, possibly a Thursday.

Obviously there would be a return service on the same day. This would not require the re-establishment of one of the cancelled routes but would allow those people who rely on bus transport to maintain their independence.

From: Cllr Julie Landers,
Independent,
Lismore Town Council
