Jimmy bows out in style

HIS departure was as impressive as his enthusiastic reception was three years earlier.

It was a fitting, final, tribute to Jimmy O’Gorman’s superb chairmanship of the Munster Council at last Friday night’s annual Council convention in Listowel.

Those tributes that were showered on the Lismore clubman were true testament of the esteem in which he is held at provincial level, and an acknowledgement too of the masterful way in which he served out his term as chairman.

Jimmy’s farewell address, too, was nothing other than inspirational in fact it has been described to me by one veteran Munster Council convention attendee as “one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to’’. It was delivered with all the passion that Jimmy could muster as he said his goodbyes to an office to which he has brought such outstanding honour and dignity over the last three years.

Well done Jimmy O’Gorman. Your place in Munster Council history is assured, as indeed it is in your native county, too. You have flown the flag for club, county, and province with flawless excellence throughout each and every day of your chairmanship. Everyone in Deiseland has very good reason to be proud of you.
